Happy New Year, Local 1048!

On behalf of the Union Executive, I want to wish every one of you a healthy and happy 2026.

We are starting the year with a renewed sense of hope and a significant win for our membership. As many of you saw in December, we had to take some “activist” steps to ensure our voices were heard regarding new City policies.

In our first meeting of the year, the City Manager acknowledged the importance of Union consultation and expressed a sincere desire to move forward more collaboratively. We are currently working together on a new set of “Terms of Reference” for our Labour Management Committee that will formalize how the Union and the City solve problems together.

Our goal for 2026 is simple: to ensure that when the City makes a plan, the people doing the work are part of the conversation from the very beginning. It was a refreshing meeting, and we feel optimistic about the “reset” in our working relationship.

We have plenty of work ahead of us, from safety gear to privacy rights, but we are starting from a much stronger foundation.

Thank you for your continued support and for everything you do to keep Prince George running. Let’s make 2026 our best year yet!

In Solidarity,

Reid Madisen-Boyce

President, CUPE 1048
