Last night, CUPE 1048 members attended the City Council meeting to advocate for a collaborative approach to policy-making, and we are pleased to report that Council listened.
The Employer has withdrawn the changes to the Whistleblower Policy for revision and Council voted unanimously to “indefinitely postpone” the Council-Staff Communications Policy.
What This Means
This decision allows us time to pause and ensure that any new policies truly support the safety and success of our workplace. We believe that open communication between staff and elected officials is vital for a healthy City, and this postponement ensures those lines remain open for now.
Our Commitment to Collaboration
Our number one goal is collaboration. We are not here to cause tension; we are here to work with the Employer to find solutions that work for everyone—taxpayers, council, and staff alike.
We are eager to sit down with Administration to provide our input on policies that affect all staff before they return to Council. We believe that by working together, we can build a framework that protects integrity without creating unnecessary barriers.
Moving Forward
We will continue to stand up for our members and ensure your voices are part of the conversation. Thank you to every member who voiced an opinion, sent an email of support, or sat in the room last night. Your presence showed that we are engaged, constructive, and ready to help build a better Prince George.
In Solidarity,
Reid Madisen-Boyce
President, CUPE 1048
